Pay for Assisted Purchase when a US retailer will not accept your payment or checkout details, and you have confirmed the item can be forwarded to your destination. It adds a purchasing layer to ordinary parcel forwarding. For an order you can place yourself, sending it directly to an eligible warehouse or using the retailer’s own international delivery is usually the simpler comparison to make first.
This guide concerns US-retailer purchases forwarded internationally, not Japan-origin proxy shopping. It analyzes published Shipito Assisted Purchase instructions, service FAQ, and terms of service checked October 22, 2026. It is a documentary assessment; HomeChoiceWorks did not place a test order. Prices and policies can change.
What changes when Shipito buys for you?
With ordinary forwarding, you are the shopper: you pay the retailer, address delivery to an eligible warehouse, and later purchase international shipping. With Assisted Purchase, you submit product links and the information needed for Shipito to try to place the US retail order using funds in your Shipito account. Once the retailer delivers, the parcel enters your suite; you still complete the customs declaration and choose and pay for onward delivery. Buying assistance is not a shipping pass, customs clearance or warranty guarantee.
| Stage | Buy it yourself | Use Shipito Assisted Purchase |
|---|---|---|
| US retailer checkout | You enter payment, address and merchant-order details. | Shipito attempts the purchase after you submit the request, fund the account and pass verification. |
| Item availability | You see the retailer checkout and receive its order confirmation. | Shipito confirms stock and pricing; changes may need your decision and partial availability can matter. |
| Warehouse intake | Shipito processes your parcel after retailer delivery. | Shipito receives the purchased goods into your suite; onward freight is separate. |
| Return or warranty | Your retailer relationship and return options apply, subject to its policy. | Shipito can help request a return, but you pay relevant fees and the retailer still controls its return/warranty decision. |
The Assisted Purchase FAQ says each request must be from one retailer; different retailers require separate requests. It also states that if less than half of the items are available, the request is cancelled; otherwise available items can be bought even when others are out of stock. That matters if your order only works as a complete set. Ask how your particular basket will be handled before committing funds.
The fees: calculate purchase assistance and forwarding separately
Shipito’s service page, pricing schedule and terms currently show a $8.50 assisted-purchase charge, a 4.3% payment/processing charge and an 8% commission, plus the standard warehouse receiving fee ($3.25 Free or $2.25 Premium). The FAQ describes the $8.50 fee as covering up to 10 items from one retailer. The pages do not make every potential fee base or treatment of orders with more than 10 items unambiguous. Confirm the checkout’s calculation rather than assuming the percentages exclude all taxes and retailer shipping.
| Cost component | What to budget | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Merchandise, retailer shipping and sales tax | Retailer price plus any domestic delivery and applicable US sales tax. | The intermediary does not remove retailer charges. |
| Assisted Purchase fee | $8.50 shown on published terms; FAQ qualifies it as per 10 same-retailer items. | A fixed fee matters especially on small orders. |
| Percentage charges | 4.3% processing and 8% commission, with exact applicable bases to confirm at checkout. | These tend to grow as the paid order grows. |
| Warehouse processing | $3.25 per received parcel for Free; $2.25 for Premium under current pricing. | A multi-parcel retailer shipment may add intake charges. |
| International journey | Carrier postage, optional services/insurance, destination duties and tax. | Can exceed the assisted-purchase fee; requires a route-specific estimate. |
For a single eligible $200 merchandise order, if both percentage bases are exactly $200 and one parcel incurs the Free handling fee, the stated service charges would be $8.50 + $16.00 + $8.60 + $3.25 = $36.35. That would make $236.35 before retailer shipping, sales tax, international carriage, other optional charges and destination import costs. Actual percentage bases, package count and freight may differ; do not treat this as an invoice or a delivered price.
Compare this with self-checkout + warehouse processing + forwarding and with retailer-direct international shipping using the same item and destination. Assisted Purchase has a clear functional value when checkout is impossible; it is not inherently a cheaper shipping option. If only a payment-card hurdle is involved, investigate a legitimate retailer-accepted payment method first without misrepresenting billing or residence information.
Before submitting an order: the five checkpoints
- Check acceptance of the exact item. Retailer willingness to sell is different from warehouse acceptance, US export rules, carrier rules and destination import rules. Review Shipito’s prohibited/limited item guide before paying.
- Verify the retailer and destination route. Confirm the seller will deliver to the chosen warehouse and that an appropriate onward carrier appears for your shipment type; estimates are not a guarantee of carriage.
- Budget verification time. First-time assisted orders require two identification documents and verified payment. Shipito says verification can take up to two weeks during busy periods (service explanation).
- Ask what happens if part of the basket is unavailable. Explain if a set must ship together, and check the merchant’s sale-price expiration before funding.
- Confirm what is refundable and who will handle a return. Get the seller’s written policy and ask Shipito about service fees, funded balances and return handling before submission.
Shipito says its team checks price and stock when it makes the purchase. The service page describes an allowance of up to $10 above a funded amount that can produce a negative Shipito balance, while a larger difference prompts contact. If your spending limit is strict, confirm the current authorization and approval procedure in the order screen and do not assume the originally displayed retailer price is locked.
Timing and control: why Assisted Purchase may be the wrong fit
The FAQ describes typical request processing as 2–5 days, with a further 1–3 weeks possible for retailer delivery to the warehouse; the service instructions warn of first-order verification taking up to two weeks and peak-season slowdowns. These are merchant-published estimates, not delivery promises. Add customs processing and international shipping time on top. This can be unsuitable for flash sales, gifts needed by a fixed date or products that sell out quickly.
Shipito’s terms expressly say it is not responsible for product quality, warranties or seller delivery and back-order problems. Its service page advertises warranty assistance at a $10 charge, but assistance is not the same as coverage or a successful retailer decision. The FAQ says assisted-purchase returns are requested by support ticket and the customer is responsible for return fees. For an expensive item, confirm the merchant will accept a return from a forwarder and who pays for domestic and cross-border return freight.
Funding adds a separate risk. Shipito’s payments/refunds FAQ describes bank-wire fees and refund deductions and states PayPal is not an Assisted Purchase payment method. The terms permit security holds if account/payment data do not match. Different kinds of refunds—unused account deposits versus retailer purchase refunds—should not be assumed to follow the same process. Obtain clarification from support before transferring a large sum.
Who should use it—and who should avoid it?
| Situation | More sensible next step |
|---|---|
| Retailer rejects your international payment but accepts a domestic purchase arranged by an intermediary | Ask Shipito to confirm eligibility, verification, fees and estimated time; Assisted Purchase may solve the actual problem. |
| Retailer accepts your payment and delivers to a valid forwarder address | Use standard forwarding instead; compare the separate total cost without an 8% buying commission. |
| Retailer ships directly to your country at an acceptable final price | Compare landed totals first; avoiding a warehouse handoff may simplify delivery and claims. |
| Restricted item, strict delivery deadline, warranty-sensitive device or uncertain cancellation | Do not submit funds until item, route and remedies are clarified; consider another item or local seller. |
Final pre-payment questions for support
- Will you purchase these exact SKU/variants from this US retailer and deliver them to the requested warehouse?
- What is the service-fee unit when my request exceeds 10 items, and which amounts are subject to the 4.3% and 8% charges?
- What happens if one item is out of stock, the price changes or the order needs cancellation before/after the retailer accepts it?
- Can this precise product be exported using an available carrier to my postal code and what documentation is needed?
- Who arranges, pays for and authorizes any retailer return or warranty case, and how will unused balance be returned?
After those questions are answered, you can review Shipito’s current Assisted Purchase instructions and check the actual transaction before funding.
